Why is it important to keep the PST Merger version up to date
Because of outside factors like Microsoft Outlook or Windows version changes, PST Merger needs to change as well to keep up. With each new PST Merger version, new functionalities can be introduced, bugs fixed, old functionalities discontinued. Most importantly - our general policy is to not provide support for old PST Merger releases.
PST Merger's new version releases come out every few months unless there is urgency and there is a need for a patched build.
How to check the current PST Merger version number
Step 1. Launch PST Merger application. Click the Help button located bottom left of the app and select About from the drop-down menu.
In the About window, you will see the version of the application written on top.
You can also check the PST Merger version in Apps and Features.
Step 1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select the Apps and Features option.
Step 2. In the Apps and Features window, locate the 4Team PST Merger application and click on it. The version number will be visible there.
How to check if an update is available
Step 1. Launch PST Merger application. Click the Help button located bottom left of the app and select About from the drop-down menu.
Step 2. In the About window, click the Check for Update button and select the Check for updates now option from the drop-down menu.
You will be redirected to a PST Merger web page where you will see if an update is available. If an update is available, you will see download options.
If you have the latest version already, there will be nothing new to download.
How to check license validity before updating PST Merger to the latest version
It is very important that your PST Merger license would be valid if you want to update to the latest PST Merger version. If you try to update with an expired license, PST Merger will revert to a Free version.
Step 1. Open up your browser and go to the 4Team Members Area page. Log in to your 4Team Members account.
Step 2. Once logged into your account, click the My Activations option located on the left side of the page.
Step 3. On the My Activations page, you will find your activation keys and you will be able to see your license Status.
If the license is valid, you can proceed with the upgrade, if not - acquire a license upgrade first.
How to update PST Merger to the latest version
There are two most commonly used methods to update PST Merger. Updating via the PST Merger app itself or uninstalling the old PST Merger version and installing a new one.
Method #1
Step 1. Launch PST Merger application. Click the Help button located bottom left of the app and select About from the drop-down menu.
Step 2. In the About window, click the Check for Update button and select the Check for updates now option from the drop-down menu.
You will be redirected to a PST Merger web page where you will see if an update is available. If an update is available, you will see download options.
Step 3. Click the Install Update button.
Step 4. A setup file will be downloaded, wait for the download to finish, and run the setup file. If you cannot find where the setup was downloaded, click CTRL+J combination in your browser for the Downloads page to open.
Step 5. Setup will ask if you want to perform an upgrade of PST Merger. Click the Yes button.
Step 6. Follow the setup wizard until the installation is complete.
Method #2
The second method involves uninstalling the old PST Merger version via Apps and Features and then downloading and installing the latest PST Merger version directly from the website.
Step 1. Uninstall the current 4Team PST Merger application you have via Settings > Apps > Select 4Team PST Merger application and Uninstall.
Step 2. Visit the PST Merger website and click the Download button top of the page.
Step 3. In the downloads page click the more download links option.
Step 4. Close the Thank you for downloading PST Merger popup, or subscribe if you haven't already.
Step 5. Select the correct download link for your Outlook bit version. To find out what BIT version Outlook you have, please follow the How to find Outlooks bit version article.
Step 6. A setup file will be downloaded with x64 or x86 at the end of its name to help you distinguish the setup file from the one downloaded previously. Make sure you run the installation of the new file with a longer name.
Note: x64 is for 64-bit Outlook and x86 is for 32-bit Outlook.
Step 7. Run the installation file, follow the installation wizard and finish installing the PST Merger application.
Tips:
- It's always a good idea to re-check the PST Merger version after an update to make sure it's the latest one.
- Do not update PST Merger to the latest version unless your license is valid.
- Make sure you install the correct BIT version of PST Merger to match the Outlook BIT version.
- PST Merger does not auto-update. Update always needs to be done manually.
